My life experiences during the quarantine-lockdown of the Covid-19

On the 16th of March 2020, I officially started my lockdown period caused by the fear of uncontrolled spreading of the Pandemic. I am in Germany, working at the ballet company of the Badisches Staatstheater of Karlsruhe under the directorship of Bridget Breiner.

During all this period, I haven’t stopped working, keeping my body and mind active, positive and looking for new ways of inspiration. It has been a very special period for me where there has been space for introspection, coaching, creations, meditation and many, many thoughts send to the people I love the most. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to have the unconditional love and company of my beautiful cat, Hani, who totally loved this Quarantine period.

These are a few moments I would like to share with you:

First task: Creation focused on one part of the body that I truly love and feel curious about:

My feet

I’m not a pro with video tech and programs so I totally did this recording naturally with any “high effects”. I choose the body part of my body that I love and know the most: my feet.

As you know, the sea it’s an important part of me, the Mediterranean Sea specially so I felt like putting them in the water and playing while listening to this beautiful song that I love so much. I thought of Barcelona (“Todo sobre mi madre” by P. Almodóvar was filmed in this city using this song in one of the scenes), and last but not least, I used this painting as inspiration, which for me symbolizes many of those elements (specially the sea). It was a gift, painted by Lynne Charles.

The arms

Following my childhood memories, the Mediterranean sounds of the sea, the waves and its music, I used this time, the expression of the arms, hands and upper body while seating on a table. How can these body parts express the moves of the water, rhythm of the wind and the feeling of belonging. Those were my motivations. The song “La cançó de Na Ruixa Mantells (Fragments) is by Maria Del Mar Bonet, a Catalan/ Palma de Mallorca extraordinary singer and I specially love this song. I used the painting of Lynne as part of the inspiration/scenography.

Once again, I’m not an expertise in filming or making videos so I apologize if it looks very “homemade”.

Freedom

I chose as inspiration of “delight”: FREEDOM, not so much in the big philosophical way but more searching the inner freedom that one can have and feel no matter the outer circumstances. Freedom living and dancing in a tiny room, reading, the flying thoughts that a book and their characters can give you and finally my grandpa (who is in the book) and is flying somewhere :))

I wish I knew how it would feel to be free by Nina Simone.

Patience, introspection, acceptance and hope.
